Position Summary

This position is responsible for repairing and overhauling light trucks, school buses tractors, lawn mowers and other gasoline or diesel powered vehicles and equipment for the District.

 

An individual in this position is expected to perform additional job related responsibilities and duties within the department or district as assigned and/or as necessary.   



Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • Four (4) years of successful full-time paid employment in all phases of automotive and engine repair & maintenance or ASE certification in diesels.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques for repairing light or heavy vehicles sucks as vans or buses of gasoline or diesel engines.
  • Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment; to adapt available tools; to perform heavy manual labor;
  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches & pencil diagrams.
  • Ability to operate machine used in vehicle repair work.
  • Possess or obtain within the first sixty (60) days of probationary employment, a Class A or B CDL and a Bus Driving Certificate.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and orally.
  • Must be able to comply with the physical limits and essential duties of this position.



Essential Job Functions

An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Plans work procedures using charts, technical manuals and previous experience.
  • Raises vehicles to gain access to underside, using hydraulic jack or air hoist.
  • Removes unites suck as engines, transmissions or differentials from vehicles, micrometers, calipers and thickness gauges.
  • Repairs or replaces engine parts, electrical systems, brakes and other parts of vehicles and equipment, replaces, adjusts or repairs vehicle accessories, such as windshield wipers and heaters.
  • Changes tires on vehicles, as needed.
  • Performs minor tune-ups on diesel equipment.
  • Inspects vehicles for safety to ensure that they meet safe safety standards.
  • Attends and participates in all school bus safety meetings.
  • Attends and participates in all required training.
  • Reports to work each workday at the Transportation building no later than the scheduled start time.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.


Physical Activities:

The following physical activities are necessary to perform one or more essential functions of this position.

  • Frequent standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasional sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Frequent exposure to load noise levels; fumes and vibrations from vehicles.
  • Occasional stepping & moving up and down a ladder and/or steps.
  • Constant grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and below the knees.
  • Frequent move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to visually inspect equipment and vehicles.



Work Environment
Working in the following environment is necessary to perform one or more of the essential functions of this position.

  • Work in areas requiring exposure to varying temperatures, extreme heat or cold, and/or wet, damp, or drafty conditions.
